BHOPAL: In a jolt to the ruling BJP, Congress won elections in all the three civic bodies in Madhya Pradesh that had gone to polls recently.

Congress candidates won in Isagarh, Maihar and Mandideep civic bodies. Mandideep is an industrial hub and satellite township in the outskirts of Bhopal.

BJP was confident of its victory and the party leaders had campaigned extensively in the elections. In Maihar, Congress' Dharmesh Ghai was elected. Ghai got over 14,000 votes while BJP's Dheeraj Pandey secured 10,150 votes.

In civic body too, Congress candidates won in 16 places out of 24. Also, the party candidate Bhupendra Dwivedi emerged victorious in Isagarh. Badri Singh Chauhan of Congress was elected as chairman in the civic polls in Mandideep.

In Mandideep, it was an independent candidate who affected the chances of BJP. However, the victory at three places, was unexpected for Congress too, leaders privately said. The party leaders feel that it signals the growing disenchantment of elecotrate with Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
