After the bodies were found, there was outrage across the state. The incident has sent shockwaves in the Vindhya region. People came out on the streets in a spontaneous reaction to protest and the police had to resort to lathi-charge to control the situation.

At least two of the accused pesons have links with the RSS, BJP and Bajrang Dal. The accused had photos and symbols of BJP and  Yogi Adityanath on their vehicles apart from 'Ram Rajya' painted on the number plates. The police are interrogating the accused.

The BJP has targeted the state government for its failure in securing safe release of the kids. Former chief minister Shivraj Chouhan has said that the Kamal Nath government was busy in transfers, instead of focusing on law-and-order.
