In a unique initiative, the clerics of all the religions together hoisted the national flag on the occasion of Republic Day.

Symbolising India's cultural unity, integrity and communal harmony, the initiative drew wide attention in the region. The event was held at LBS College on the eve of R-Day, in Harda in Madhya Pradesh.

Ahead of R-day, the LBS College brought the representatives of all the religions. The religious heads joined to hoist the flag at the function held on the premises of the college in Harda district of the State.

The director of the institution, Dr Rajeev Khare said that the cultural events were held and the focus of all the programmes was on communal harmony. The aim was to stress on the unity and integrity as well as the plural nature of our society, Khare further said. All the religious gurus were made chief guests.

That was not all. In fact, for the feast--everyone including teachers, students and others had brought couple of spoons or rice each from their homes. This was used to prepare a 'khichdi', once again giving the message of harmony and the beauty of India's shared cultural heritage.

Organisers say that the message has to go to the next generation and hence the entire focus was on our strength i.e. our unity. Lal Bahadur Shastri Vyavsayik Adhyayan Mahavidyalaya or LBS College of Professional Studies is an important institution in Harda in Madhya Pradesh.
