BHOPAL: Four persons including Bhopal-based interior designer Zahdi Parvez have been sentenced to life in the case of murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood.

Special court (CBI) on Saturday gave its judgment in the high-profile murder case.

Zahida Parvez, her friend Saba Farooqui and shooters Saqib & Tabish have been awarded life term.

The court sentenced all the four persons for murder and criinal conspiracy. Shehla Masood, 38, an RTI activist, was shot outside her house in Koh-e-Fiza on August 16, 2011.

She was leaving the house and had just got into her car when she was shot in the neck. Shehla died on the spot. Bhopal police failed to crack the murder mystery.

Later, CBI was handed over the investigation. During the probe, it was found that Zahida Parvez disliked Shehla because of her growing closeness with former BJP MLA Dhurv Narayan Singh.

Zahida who was also in a relationship with Singh, asked the MLA to keep away from Shehla. However, she grew intensely jealous, suspecting that Singh continued to meet Shehla.

As per prosecution, Zahida hired Saqib as contract-killer and shooters Tabish and Irfan were given the task to kill Shehla. The RTI activist was killed while going to attend a demonstration in support of Lokpal bill.

CBI arrested five persons including Zahida, her friend Saba, Saqib, Tabish and Irfan. Irfan later turned approver. The court acquitted him. The other four have been sentenced to life imprisonment. Their lawyer has said that he will appeal against the order.
