MBA student lynched in Manipur, IRB jawan among five arrested for the horrific crime

GUWAHATI: In yet another incident of mob lynching, a youth has been killed in Manipur.

The victim, Mohammad Farooq, an MBA student, was beaten to death in Tharoijam. The local residents suspected that he was a thief and brutally beat him.

Subsequently, the victim succumbed to the injuries. Five persons including an India Reserve Battalion personnel have been arrested in connection with the crime. The incident had occurred on Friday.

One of the victim's friends, Shaha Shah, tweeted the video of Farooq being tortured and the security personnel not interfering despite being present at the spot. Subsequently, there was outrage.

According to sources, Farooq and two others, tried to leave in their car but villagers chased and attacked them. In a hurry, they tried to escape but the car met with a mishap.

While the two others managed to get away, Farooq was caught and beaten in full public view. At least 13 persons have been made accused in the attack. Five of them have been identified so far and arrested.

They include an India Reserve Battalion jawan. After the incident, the mob had attacked police station too. The local in-charge of the police station was injured in the incident. The police are interrogating the accused.
