BHOPAL: A man died while his brother was critical after they attempted suicide following alleged police torture.

The incident occurred in Mandla district in Eastern MP.

Vijay Kumar Nanda, 45, committed himself in his house. He was found hanging and was later declared dead.

His brother Girish consumed poison and is undergoing treatment in the hospital. His condition remains critical, said sources.

According to information, the brothers were subjected to torture and kept in illegal custody regarding a crime in the area.

A man was found dead in Gangora. The person was identified as Kamta Prasad. Suspecting that it was a case of murder, police questioned Vijay and Girish.

The brothers were kept in police custody and allegedly given electric shocks too. They were also allegedly forced to put signatures on blank papers.

The brothers were in a state of shock. On Wednesday, when local residents found that Vijay has ended his life and Girish also attempted suicide, they got angry.

Sensing trouble, police were deployed in the area. Meanwhile, a probe has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident. IG has ordered probe into allegations of custodial torture.
