Now, Maoists put up posters in support of farmers’ agitation in Chhattisgarh; alert sounded

BHOPAL/RAIPUR: In another twist to the ongoing farmers’ agitation in various states including Madhya Pradesh, Maoists in Chhattisgarh have put up posters supporting the farmers’ demands in of Kanker of violence-prone Bastar division.

The posters have sent the police and security forces in Chhattisgarh into fresh tizzy and statewide alert has been sounded, sources said.

The posters and banners have been put up and thrown on the Dwarkapuri-Barda road under the Pakhanjur police station in Kanker.

The messages have been put up by the Pratappur area committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist). The messages say that the farmers and indigenous people who till the lands have rights on the local land and not the capitalists.

The Chhattisgarh authorities are yet to officially react on the development, but sources said that security forces and police have been put on alert.

Farmers in many states including Madhya Pradesh have agitated during past weeks for loan waiver and remunerative prices for their produce. The agitation turned violent in MP last week, with six farmers killed in police firing and another injured succumbing later.

Farmers’ bodies in Chhattisgarh have also warned the state government of agitation.
