Bhopal: The MP Congress Committee president, Arun Yadav has written to the prime minister Narendra Modi, urging him to get the alleged involvement of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s relatives in illegal sand mining on river Narmada.

The letter to PM comes in context of reports that Modi would attend the concluding ceremony of the ‘Namami Devi Narmade Yatra’ – a 114 day event along the spread of River Narmada – on May 11.

Yadav has urged the PM to first get investigate the role of CM’s family in destroying the river and making crores of rupees through illegal sand mining on the river and the protection provided to his kin by Chouhan during his 11 years as CM.

Yadav made the letter public at a press conference on Friday. In the letter, he said that illegal sand mining was rampant in entire state because of political protection and incidents like murder of an IPS officer, attempts on life of district collector and officers/employees of mining department were common.

However, the most rampant illegal sand mining was being carried out in home district and assembly segment of CM Chouhan in Sehore and surrounding areas.

Yadav claimed in the letter that everyday about 800-1000 truck/dumper full of illegal sand was being mined and transported in the area. The sand mafia had even built a temporary bridge on River Narmada at the Joshipur-Jarrapur border of Sehore for the illegal transportation.

Yadav has also alleged in the letter that the JCB machines, poklain machines, trucks and dumpers running without proper number plates, fitness, registration or tax payment had ‘Chouhan Enterprises’ and ‘Chouhan Brothers’ etched on them.

Who are the owners of these vehicles and mining machines? Whose kin are people like SS Chouhan, Tularam Chouhan, Pradyumna Singh Chouhan, Bablu Chouhan and APS Chouhan (Patel) linked to the illegal operations, Yadav has questioned and urged PM to get probe done.

Yadav also mentioned the incident in Sehore where the mining officer impounded four sand dumpers (MP 04 HE 3904, MP 04 HE 3400, MP 04 HE 2147 and MP 04 HE 2005) for overloading.

These dumpers were found registered in the name of chief minister’s nephew Pradyumna Singh Chouhan (Son of Narendra Singh Chouhan).

Arun Yadav has appended the registration certificates of the vehicles mentioned above, photographs of sand mining and transportation and newspaper clippings as evidence of his allegations. These documents were made available to media too.
