BHOPAL/INDORE: It's a jolt to MP government, particularly, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The much-hyped Global Investors' Summit (GIS) is all set to begin in Indore but Prime Minister Narendra Modi won't attend it.

The state government had hoped that Modi's presence would add to the attraction of the summit and would bring big investors (as well as investment).

But Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has reportedly conveyed to the State government about his inability to reach Indore for the event. The summit would be held on October 22 and 23.

In the last GIS, Narendra Modi had arrived and the result was that major industrial groups and big businessmen had rushed to Indore.  The summit was held in Indore in the year 2014.

All the posters had Modi's photographs and 'Make In India' theme was part of the programme. PM had emphasised that states needed to go forward, in order for India to prosper.

He had also lauded the MP government for organising the event. Sources say that PM won't be attending any such investors' summit in other states either.

However, the fact remains that he was part of the previous GIS. But is skipping the event. This year, Chouhan's efforts have been in wane. No wonder, big investors may not turn up for MPGIS2016.

MP government officials have also confirmed that the PM has expressed his inability to come to Madhya Pradesh on this occasion. Industries minister Rajendra Shukla has also confirmed it to journalists.
