AHMEDABAD: In an extremely disturbing trend, a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) radical who had been convicted in Ajmer blast case, got a hero's welcome in Gujarat.

Bhavesh Patel was held guilty in a case of terrorism--attack on Ajmer Sharif shrine. The court had sentenced him and a co-accused to life imprisonment.

But Patel has got released on bail, now (from the High Court). As he was released from jail, hundreds came to feliticate him in Bharuch.

There was huge support for him, as BJP-VHP leaders participated in the rally. They threw rose petals at Patel. There were slogans in support of Patel, who now calls himself Swami Muktananad.

BJP leaders including Surbhiben Tamakuwala, the president of Bharuch municipality, Maruti Singh Atodariya, councillor, VHP and RSS leaders were present, reported Indian Express. The convict was carried on shoulders and taken towards his home.

Of late, there have been a disturbing trend of public support for criminals and terrorists. In the case of rape with a minor girl in Jammu's Kathua, right-wing leaders had taken out rallies in support of the prime suspect.

However, this case is even more disturbing in the sense that the accused--Bhavesh Patel is a convicted person. Apart from Bhavesh Patel, another person Devendra Gupta was also convicted and sent to life term by a Jaipur court in the case of blast at Ajmer Dargah in which three persons were killed and over a dozen were injured in the year 2007.
