NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident, right-wing fanatics vandalized a gate at Taj Mahal's entrance in Agra.

This incident occurred on Sunday. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) cadre had organised a demonstration at the gate.

Alleging that this gate blocked path to an ancient temple, they vandalized it. This steel gate was installed by ASI on the Taj's Western gate.

The right-wing extremists have been claiming that Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, and a monument that is India's pride, was a temple.

A section of these radicals want to turn the Mughal monument into a temple. BJP ministers have earlier issued statements, calling it a temple. However, the brazen attack has come as a surprise.

After the incident, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has lodged a complained with the police. More than two persons were booked under various sections by the police.

Those who led the protest have been identified, said sources. However, the local VHP members have insisted that they would not let the gate stand at the place at any cost.
