BHOPAL: In a shocking incident, a two-year-old girl child from Madhya Pradesh's Bhind district died on Tuesday allegedly due to starvation. Her father, a daily wage labourer reportedly failed to buy food as he did not get his due wages for several days.

This incident looks is a grim reminder of the death of a 11-year-old girl in Jharkhand whose family had failed to get ration for seven months as their Public Distribution System (PDS) card was not linked to Aadhar. The incident had caused nationwide furore, especially due to issue of linkage of Aadhar card.

In the Bhind incident, the father of the dead child, Kalyan claimed that he had been removed from work and not given his due wages. “Therefore I could not buy food," said Kalyan, who is a daily-wage labourer.

Meanwhile, the administration is trying to help the family now. Bhind sub-Divisional Magistrate Santosh Tiwari has, however, assured that necessary action would be taken in the matter.

The officer said that they came to know that the family has not had food for two days. The girl who was already suffering from fever passed away in the afternoon and the body has been sent for postmortem, the SDM Santosh Tiwari said.

The police have been directed to take necessary action in the matter too, added the officer. A financial assistance of Rs 10,000 has been given to the family by the local officials.
