INDORE: In a startling incident, a 1-1/2-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth.

The accused, Jitendra Kumar Poonam, 22, has been arrested and produced in the court. Subsequently, he has been sent to jail.

This incident occurred in Khandwa district in Madhya Pradesh.

According to police, the youth who lives in the victim's neighbourhood, had taken the kid along and when he brought her back, the kid was crying loudly.

All efforts to calm down the kid failed. Subsequently, the child's mother spotted the blood in her dress. She got suspicious. Her husband had also arrived by then. They approached the police.

The medical examination confirmed their worst fears. The police registered a case against the accused, who was booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) as well. He was arrested.

The child was referred to Indore for medication. After the incident, there was anger in Khedi, the settlement on Harsud Road, in Khalwa tehsil of Khandwa. Local residents said that the youth would often take kids away on the pretext of playing with them.

A woman said that one day he was taking her five-month-old daughter away but she didn't let him take the kid along.
