LUCKNOW: The social media in-charge of Congress, Divya Spandana aka Ramya, has been booked for sedition for an allegedly derogatory post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Acting on a lawyer's complaint, the police have regsitered a case of sedition against her.

The former actor-turn-Congress leader has also been booked under the Information Technology (IT) Act.

A lawyer, Dr Syed Rizwan Ahmed, who is based in Lucknow, filed a complaint with the Gomti Nagar police station for her post that 'insulted PM Modi'.

A photograph of PM Modi's wax statue with the word 'chor' (thief) painted (morphed) on forehead was tweeted by her. The Congress has been an attacking mode, targeting PM and BJP govertment over Rafale deal.

However, this tweet prompted the lawyer to approach police and file the FIR. In the complaint, the lawyer mentioned that the tweet was not only insulting towards PM, it also mocked at India's international prestige.

Undeterred, Divya Spandana again tweeted with the same hashtag. She wrote, "Thank you guys, for extendin gyour support. And for those who dont' like the tweet, what can I say" Will keep it 'classy' next time. India should do away with the sedition law. It's archaic and misused".

The complainant, Syed Rizwan Ahmed, talking to media persons claimed that he made requests to Divya Spandana to remove the tweet. But after his requests were ignored, he filed the FIR.
