IG, SP removed over assault with RSS leader in MP, cops were booked too

BHOPAL: In a surprising step, the State government took action against two senior police officers over the alleged assault with a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader in Balaghat in Madhya Pradesh. 

Inspector General of Police (IG) DC Sagar and Superintendent of Police (SP) Asit Yadav were removed from the present posts. Earlier, Additional SP, an inspector and several other policemen were booked for attempt to murder and robbery for the alleged assault. 

This is a rare incident in recent years in the State when senior officials of the ranks of IG and SP have faced action. Sagar has been posted as IG (Planning) while SP has been posted in the SAF battlaion as commandant.

Senior BJP and RSS leaders were upset that top officials gave go ahead for FIR. After the incident, Suresh Yadav was allegedly brought to police station and roughed up. Police officials, however, deny that he was beaten up. 

An inquiry was ordered but even before completion of probe, several policemen including Additional SP Rajesh Sharma, Inspector Ziaul Haq and other policemen were charged with attempt to murder, robbery and rioting apart from other sections of IPC.

"Rule of the RSS, no longer rule of law in Madhya Pradesh"

Two separate cases were registered against them. Following the registration of FIR under such harsh sections, there was anger among policemen. Congress said that it was no longer rule of law but rule of RSS in Madhya Pradesh.

However, today the State government took action and shifted the senior officials as well. The order was issued by the Home department of the Madhya Pradesh government, according to an official press release.
