Madhya Pradesh: 12 dead as bus falls off bridge into Narmada river near Dhar

BHOPAL: As many as 12 persons were killed when a passenger bus fell off the bridge in Dhar district on Tuesday.

The mishap took place neat Khalghat on Dhar-Khargone border.

The driver and conductor were also among those who died in the accident. Eyewitnesses said that the bus that was on way from Indore to Amalner, was overtaking a vehicle when two bikes came from the opposite direction and in order to save the motorcycle riders, the driver turned steering abruptly.

As a result, the bus fell from a height of around 100 feet and passengers were drowned into the overflowing Narmada river. The search was on for the bodies of missing persons. However, 12 bodies had been brought out. Not a single person in the bus could be saved. The state government has announced a compensation to families of the deceased.
