Bhopal: Social activists meet Digvijaya Singh, raise issues concerning Muslims

BHOPAL: Social activists from different fields called upon senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh and urged him to take steps for welfare of Muslims.

They also drew Singh's attention towards lack of sufficient funds for minorities' welfare apart from other pressing issues. An eight point agenda was put forward.

The important demands included adequate representation, sending a Muslim leader to Rajya Sabha, nomination in proposed legislative council, filling posts of Urdu teachers, government's intervention to stop plan to rename structures and railway station apart from focus on role of Begums of Bhopal.

Activist Anas Ali, Sameer Khan, Owais Hashmi, Mohd Nadeem, Nawab Shahnawaz Khan, Naeem Hanafi, Arish Ali, Samir Khan, Sufiyan Siddiqui, Md Shahwez Khan and Sufiyan Qureshi were part of the delegation. Singh reportedly gave a patient hearing and gave assurance about taking steps towards redressal of grievances.
