17 killed, 35 injured in massive fire at hotel in Delhi

NEW DELHI: As many as 17 persons died in a massive fire that engulfed a hotel in Karolbagh in Delhi.

The mishap occurred at the four-floor Arpit Palace hotel at around 3.30 am. Most of the guests were asleep when the fire spread. All the bodies were yet to be identified.

The deaths were due to suffocation too. A child was among those killed. Others include a family from Kerala that had come to spend vacation and a Myanmar citizen.

Hotel's negligence would be probed. Police suspect short-circuit to be the reason behind the fire. PM Modi had expressed his grief at the incident.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to kin of each of those who died in this tragedy.
