3-yr-old girl's rape in Gwalior school: School director, coordinator arrested

GWALIOR: Two persons including the director of a school have been arrested in connection with the rape of a three-year-old girl.

The main accused, Diwan Singh Gurjar, was earlier arrested. He has been sent to jail. Now two more persons--Pawan Gupta and Indu Patankar, have been arrested, as they are accused of hushing up the case and not taking action.

Police said that it was the responsibility of the school authorities to ensure safety of child in the premises, in which they failed. The arrests have been made as per the provisions of the law.

Gurjar was arrested for rape. He was also booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police officers had conducted identification parade and the child had identified the accused. Under section 21 of the act, the police registers case against such people who are entrusted with safety of children.

There were demonstrations on the streets in Gwalior during the last couple of days. Parents had sit on a protest, demanding tough action. Aam Aadmi Party had also staged protest in this regard. Home Minister Bhupendra Singh had later assured that no one would be spared. 

The shocking incident had occurred on August 24. After the family members found that the child had been sexually abused, they informed the school coordinator and director. However, even after the information was made available to them, school authorities took no action.

They didn't inform the police either. The school is located in Harishankarpuram. The incident had led to anger among and apprehensions among people about safety of their kids. Also, action is being taken under section 188 against the two arrested persons.

The kid was injured and was treated at a local hospital. She has also suffered severe mental trauma and cries, said family members. Though she has been discharged from the hospital, the girl is still in a state of shock. The Jhansi Road police are conducting investigation in this case.
