Launching a frontal attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has alleged that Modi's friends were beef exporters.

Singh said that during the campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha election, BJP got funding from these beef exporters.

Digvijaya Singh made the charges in an interview with News18 network.

Singh said that Modi used to target UPA regime over 'pink revolution' but beef export has gone up during BJP rule. The former MP chief minister said that the election commission website has list of names of donors to political parties.

The Congress leader also said that while BJP claims that it is serious about cow protection, the reality is that beef exports have risen in its tenure and the issue is just being used for political benefit.

He said that these cow vigilantes take law into their hands and extort from cattle traders. He also said that 'gau rakshaks' were involved in violence and were killing innocents.

Singh had recently conducted Narmada Yatra in Madhya Pradesh. Though his name was excluded from the newly constituted Congress Working Committee (CWC), the Congress leader has increased his attacks against BJP in recent days.
