BHOPAL: Despite all efforts, BJP failed to secure the third Rajya Sabha seat from Madhya Pradesh.

Its candidates MJ Akbar and Anil Madhav Dave won easily but Congress' Vivek Tankha too sailed through easily.

BJP had made an elaborate strategy and had supported Vinod Gotia, an independent candidate, hoping that this move would stop Tankha's entry into the Upper House.

However, BJP strategy failed, as BSP legislators supported Congress on the grounds that BJP is a communal party. On legal issues, Congress scored over BJP.

While Leader of Opposition Satyadev Katare was allowed to vote by postal ballot, Jatara MLA Dinesh Ahirwar who was claimed by BJP as its supporter voted for Congress.

Also, Congress managed to hold its flock together. Veteran leader Kamal Nath stayed in Bhopal during the poll. The Congress also got boost as its MLA Dinesh Patel got bail in a rape case.

Further, Congress managed to get support of independent legislator Dinesh Rai Munmun. No wonder, Tankha, managed to win easily. Congress leaders are upbeat after the victory.

Insiders in BJP said that it was the failure of party strategy and in the scullduggery after fielding Vinod Gotia, led to loss of face. Unfortunately for BJP, one of its MLAs died while coming to Bhopal for voting and another Rajendra Meshram was not allowed to vote by the court.

Votes for each candidates:

MJ Akbar (BJP) 58

Anil Madhav Dave (BJP) 58

Vivek Tankha (Congress) 62
