BHOPAL: Congress has won the Chitrakoot Assembly bypoll election by a huge margin.

Party's Neelanshu Chaturvedi won the election, comfortably.

He defeated BJP's Shankar Dayal Tripathi by over 14,000 votes.

The counting has been completed. Though it is a traditional Congress seat, the victory is  a big boost for the Congress after its win in Ater bypoll sometime ago.

Leader of Opposition Ajay Singh's prestige was at stake in the poll. For Shivraj Singh Chouhan, it is a jolt as he campaigned hard in Chitrakoot and made several promises.

After the victory, Congress leaders said that it was clear that the voters had realised that the  BJP had failed them on all counts and the result indicated what was in store in the next year's Assembly election in state.
