Harda: A picture, they say, speaks more than a thousand words. Here’s one that really speaks out loud of the extreme arrogance and brutality that has become a hallmark of the Madhya Pradesh Police.

The bully in the uniform, who is literally mowing down a common citizen under his booted foot, is head constable Madhav Singh of Harda police.

The roguish policeman brutally beat up and kicked the dalit man – Chandan – who polishes shoes for living – just because the latter happened to pass some comments on the head constable in an inebriated state.

Madhav Singh is a gunman posted on Harda district court premises and was on duty when Chandan passed by and made the comments last Friday. Infuriated, the head constable slapped Chandan immediately.

When Chandan tried to escape, the policeman chased him on main thoroughfares of the city and thrashed his black and blue in broad daylight.

Many people were present at the spot when the incident occurred but no one dared interfere to save the man under assault, apparently for the fear of Khaki.

When a series of photographs of Singh assaulting Chandan brutally became public and went viral, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Pratap Singh issued orders of disciplinary action against the erring policeman.

The head constable has been sent to policeline. “A sub-divisional officer of police (SDOP) level officer is inquiring into the incident and further action would be taken after completion of inquiry,” the SP told NewsBits.in.

However, the point remains that uniform seems to bring the worst out in some personnel of MP Police, thereby casting shadow on the entire force.
