BHOPAL/RAIPUR: Rajkumar Dewangan, a senior officer of Indian Police Service (IPS) has been given compulsory retirement by the Centre.

Dewangan was facing inquiry for his role in an old case of robbery in Janjgir in Chhattisgarh.

The booty was recovered from inspector Narendra Sharma's residence and Dewangan's link was also found in the robbery.

The incident had occurred in 1998-99 when Dewangan was SP. After Dewangan's involvement was found in the robbery, he was removed from the post and was suspended.

The officer was also facing allegations of several other irregularities. These include his departure from peace force during his posting in Bosnia. A formal complaint was made to Indian government in this regard.

The departmental inquiry for his role in the dacoity case went on for long. It took 14 years for the charge-sheet to be issued. Meanwhile, he got promoted but didn't get key postings.

Finally, he has been given compulsory retirement. He would be given three months salary. Dewangan, a 1992 batch officer, was currently posted as IG (Home Guards) at the Police Headquarters.
