BHOPAL: Congress has said that State government is again planning to extend Lokayukta PP Naolekar's term.

The party said that it plans to oppose the move strongly.

There were also protests last year when government had extended Naolekar's term. Activists alleged that he was soft on government.

The Congress has alleged that CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan was given clean-chit in dumper case by the Lokayukta despite evidence.

Congress chief spokesperon KK Mishra said that the Lokayukta is a constitutional post and has a fixed term of six years.

This had ended last year but Naolekar's term was extended for a year. Now, once again, there is no attempt to appoint the new Lokayukta though Naolekar's term is ending on June 30.

Mishra said that Congress has repeatedly opposed the extention of Naolekar's term in the past also. He said that during Naolekar's term, complaints in corruption cases were closed at the government's instance.

These included complaints against 22 ministers, 106 IAS officers, 31 IPS officers, 17 IFS officers and 15 heads of department, he further said, in a press conference today.

"The BJP's sole aim is to protect the corrupt and hence the decision is taken. We will take to the streets. The appointment of Naolekar was made in 2009 and it was made in violation of norms", he added.
