BHOPAL: Congress put up a strong performance in the civic polls in Madhya Pradesh.

While BJP and Congress both won in 9 civic bodies each, an independent candidate was elected at one place.

In a way, it was draw but Congress managed to snatch several civic bodies that were earlier ruled by BJP. In Digivijaya Singh's pocketborough, Raghogarh, Congress easily managed to win.

In Dhar, Congress performed well and snatched the post of council chairperson from BJP at several municipal councils in the district. Besides, under the Right to Recall, BJP's chairpersons lost the seats at two places.

While, in Dhar, BJP's Dinesh Sharma won, an independent candidate won in Anuppur. Congress' Arti Sharma won in Raghogarh, with ease.

As this is election year and the Assembly polls would be held by yearend, there was keen interest in results of the civic polls. While BJP remains popular, Congress looks resurgent and has improved its performance in these elections.
