BHOPAL: Discontent appears to be brewing in the state unit of Madhya Pradesh Congress.

Legislator Jitu Patwari has said that Kamal Nath should lead the party.

Arun Yadav is currently Madhya Pradesh Congress president. Today's statement points towards the growing rift within the party.

Talking to journalists, Patwari said that, 'Kamal Nath is the best'. He was speaking about the need to take on the BJP head on and win the next Assembly election.

Congress has lost three elections in succession in Madhya Pradesh. Its performance was disastrous in the last Assembly polls too. In the Lok Sabha polls, just two leaders--Jyotiraditya Scindia and Kamal Nath had managed to win their seats, while Congress had lost all the constituencies.

The two leaders--Scindia and Kamal Nath, have a standing in the state. With Patwari openly taking the name of Kamal Nath, it is clear that the party MLAs are growing anxious. He said that Kamal Nath should be projected as chief ministerial candidate of Congress for the next Assembly election.

"People are fed up with the BJP government, even its own leaders are making corruption allegations and complaining about bureaucracy but Congress is unable to make use of the opportunity. Kamal Nath is a veteran leader and has the vision".

Patwari said that Congress has not been able to play the role of an active opposition and there are several issues within the party organisation. He has apprised Rahul Gandhi about these aspects.

Arun Yadav, a former MP, and son of late Subhash Yadav, is considered close to Rahul Gandhi.  However, party leaders feel he is less aggressive and has not been able to energize the party.
