Ex US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visits romantic fort town Mandu as part of MP visit

INDORE/MANDU: Former first lady as also Secretary of State of United States of America Hillary Clinton on Monday morning visited the historic fort city of Mandu as part of her three-day Madhya Pradesh visit.

This is private visit of Clinton to MP on invitation of Richard Holkar, scion of the erstwhile Holkar kingdom. Her major part of visit would be spent at Maheshwar, the main seat of former Holkar kingdom.

She had arrived at Indore on Sunday night and is scheduled to leave for Rajasthan on Tuesday.

Hillary Clinton visited Mandu on Monday morning with all its beautiful palaces and got to know about the romantic story of Baz Bahadur and Rani Rupmati. She also visited the various palaces.

Later she is scheduled for boat ride along the scenic Narmada river, watch the world renowned Maheshwari saree being weaved, an art started by Queen Ahilya Bai to help the downtrodden.

This evening interact with children of a local school before halting for the night at the holy town Maheshwar.

She is staying at the Ahilya Fort Hotel in Maheshwar. This is a private visit, Khargone Collector Ashok Kumar Verma has said.

Maheshwar, some 91 kilometres from Indore, was the capital of the erstwhile Holkar kingdom till January 6, 1818, after which Indore was designated as the capital under the reign of Malhar Rao Holkar III.
