Ujjain: Religious leaders gave a joint call for sanitation during Simhastha at Ujjain.
The declaration--first of its kind, was issued in presence of leaders of all the major religions in the country.
Religious leaders said that sanitation was a major issue and children were dying because of lack of cleanliness, especially, impure water.
Hindu seer Awadheshananda Giri, Saint Chidananda Saraswati, Maulana Kalb-e-Sadiq, Maulana Umar Ilyasi, Giani Gurbachan Singh, Acharya Lokesh Muni, Bishop Sebastian Vadakel, Brahmakumari Binny Sareen, Sadhvi Bhagwati Saraswati apart from other religious leaders joined hands for the cause.
The religious leaders took a pledge for harmony and sanitation. They said that would influence their followers to work for sanitation, and cleaning water bodies for a clean India.
The joint declaration assumes special significance as it was issued during Simhastha, the grand religious conclave. UNICEF provided technical support to the event. Chief WASH section, UNICEF India, Sue Coates, was present.
