Bhopal: Sensation prevailed in Khasrod village near prominent tourist spot Bhojpur in Raisen district on Thursday morning when a half-burnt body of a seemingly minor girl was discovered on an agriculture field close to the highway.

Bhojpur is just 35 km from capital Bhopal and is famous for its ancient Shiva temple with a 26-feet Shivlinga.

As the face and upper part of the body survived the burning to quite an extent, sources who were present on the spot guessed her age to be around 14-15 However, the Raisen superintendent of police (SP) Jagat Singh Rajput said that the age of the deceased could be ascertained only after the postmortem.

The girl remains unidentified, indicating that she or her body might have been brought to the spot elsewhere before being burnt. The SP said that the incident might have occurred between 3-3.30am according to the information available.

He said that the body has been sent to the Medico Legal Institute in Bhopal for clues although case of murder and concealment of evidence had already been registered.

He also said that no one was missing from nearby village and thus information has been sent out to other police stations in the district and nearby districts. “The investigation would proceed better once the identity of the deceased is known. Several police teams are working on the case,” Rajput said.

Sources said that the girl might have been killed after rape, but her lower body has been burnt very badly and picking evidences might be difficult.

Dog Squad, forensic team and finger print experts were summoned to the spot to gather any possible evidence.

The matter came to light early on Thursday morning when some villagers came near the field of Goverdhan Patel, they saw the burnt haystack with parts of burnt body poking out.

The scene created sensation in the village, especially as the body seemed to be that of a minor girl in age bracket of 14-15 years.
