The leaders are travelling in Chhattisgarh with their families and were behind the fateful Border Security Force (BSF) bus when it was attacked.
Salim Raj told NewsBits.in over telephone from Kashmir that the vehicles of the Chhattisgarh leaders was just 30 feet behind the BSF bus which was first attacked with grenades and followed up by firing.
“We could clearly hear the firing and the security personnel asked us to quickly divert our vehicles. Only Brijmohanji (Agrawal) had moved ahead and all of us were behind the attacked bus,” Raj said.
The BSF bus was ferrying jawans returning after their break from Jammu to Kashmir. The incident occurred just 40km outside Pahalgam on Jammu-Srinagar Highway.
