BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bhupendra Singh has said that Saifullah who was killed in an encounter in Lucknow, could have been caught alive.

Singh's statement raises questions over the manner in which Uttar Pradesh ATS conducted the operation.

The MP home minister also said that UP police were lax from the beginning. "Had they wanted they could have arrested him alive. This is an intelligence failure on their part", he said.

Saifullah was cornered in a house near Thakurganj in Lucknow. After an encounter that lasted several hours, he was declared dead. Rights' group Rihai Manch has also raised several questions on the encounter.

It has suspected that the encounter was fake. The case has hit headlines after Rashtriya Ulema Council (RUC) chief Amir Rashadi visited Saifullah's house and met his kin. Speaking on the spot, he said that the encounter was fake.

Subsequently, an FIR was registered against him in Kanpur. He has been booked for inflammatory speech. But now MP government home minister's statement has brought a new twist in the case.

Three persons were caught for blast in Bhopal-Ujjain passenger train and MP police said Saifulla was linked to the accused. UP police said that he was self-indoctrinated and was not linked to IS, however, rubbished the suspicion that it was a fake encounter.
