Madhya Pradesh: Six-year-old girl raped, murdered in Jabalpur, neighbour arrested

JABALPUR: In a horrific incident, a six-year-old girl was raped and later murdered in Jabalpur.
The girl had gone to a religious event in the locality on the occasion of Sharad Purnima. From there, she had disappeared.
Her body was found at around 11 pm. After identification, the police launched a hunt for the rapist. The kid’s brother had told police that ‘Sushil uncle’ had taken her along.
Subsequently, the suspect, Sushil Dixit, 28, was arrested, soon after. The police also found other evidences. Dixit was taken in custody and was quizzed. He confessed that he had taken the girl away, luring her with promise of giving her toffee, and raped her.
Police said that the accused had taken her to a desolate spot behind a school and raped her. After raping the kid, he hit the girl’s head against the wall. He also crushed her head with a brick, which led to her death.
The victim's family members were in a state of shock. The incident sent shockwaves across the city, especially, because of the brutality with which the child was killed.
Hundreds came out on the streets today to protest the rape. The schools and colleges were shut. Students reached the Kundam police station. They were demanding death penalty to the culprit. Later, police force was called from adjoining police stations.
The police had a tough time controlling the resident’s anger. Locals were shouting slogans and demanding that the accused’s family be shifted from the area. The local residents also laid siege to the police station, saying that they wanted accused hanged on the spot.
The police officials persuaded the residents to disperse, promising that stern action was being taken. The accused has been booked for rape and murder. The police are conducting further investigation in th e case.
