Bhopal: Southwest monsoon of 2016 arrived in Madhya Pradesh through the southeastern corner on Sunday, drenching many southern and eastern districts and bringing partial rain to other parts of the state.

Heavy rainfall warning has been issued for southern districts of state like Hoshangabad, Betul, Harda, Chhindwara, Khandwa, and Burhanpur, during next 24 hours.

Also there is likelihood for the monsoon current to cover more parts of east MP and some parts of West MP including capital Bhopal during next 48 hours (by Monday/Tuesday), director of RMC Anupam Kashyapi said. The entire state is likely to be covered by month end, the director said.

Monsoon arrived about a week late in the state this year - the normal date being June 12 - but very much according to prediction of the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC). The MeT office had predicted arrival of monsoon between June 18 and 20, latest by June 22.

As on Sunday, the northern limit of monsoon passed through Chhindwara to Sidhi via Jabalpur, thus covering most parts of Jabalpur division (except Katni and Narsinghpur), Shahdol division and Sidhi and Singrauli districts, Kashyapi.

Heavy rainfall was experienced in Jabalpur division including Mandla, Dindori and also in Hoshangabad and Raisen districts during past 24 hours. However capital Bhopal remained only partially cloudy and very humid during the day on Sunday. There was likelihood of rainfall during the evening.

This year, though monsoon is somewhat delayed and there has not been much pre-monsoon showers, there is likelihood of above average rainfall in the state during the season, the MeT office has predicted.

The chances are that about 113% of the normally expected rainfall would be recorded in state this rainy season (June to September 2016).

Since the LPA of state is about 96cm, the likelihood is that Madhya Pradesh would receive about 108cm of rainfall this season.

Division wise, West MP would receive 88.5-100 cm of rain (against average of 87cm) while East MP would receive 108-119cm of rainfall (against average of 105cm) this season, the MeT director said.

For the last two years, Eastern MP received 29% and 31% deficient rainfall respectively and thus this year is good cheer for the state and especially farmers.
