Chhattisgarh returns to ballot for civic polls, Governor approves ordinance

RAIPUR: In a major decision, the Chhattisgarh government has come out with an ordinance, reverting to use of ballot papers for civic polls in the State.

Till now civic elections were also held through EVMs but the Congress-led government has decided to return from EVMs to ballot papers.

The cabinet had passed the decision a couple of days ago. Governor Anusuiye Uikey approved the ordinance. The opposition BJP has said that it will launch a campaign against the state government's move.

Also, the Mayors and chairpersons of the municipal bodies would be elected in an indirect manner. The voting will not be directly to elect Mayor. Rather, the winning candidates (corporators) will elect the Mayor and Chairperson among themselves.
