Elderly man protesting against NRC, CAA sets himself afire in Madhya Pradesh, critical

INDORE: An elderly man who was protesting against Citizenship Act, NPR and NRC, set himself afire in Madhya Pradesh on Friday evening.

Ramesh Chandra Prajapat, 72, was staging protest against NRC, CAA and NPR at Gita Bhawan intersection in Indore, when he doused himself with kerosene and set himself afire. Prajapat was rushed to the hospital but had been badly burnt by then.

In fact, he had over 90% burns when he was admitted in the MY Hospital. A pamphlet recovered from him, had message against 'discriminatory policies' and CAA-NRC.

It mentioned the sacrifices of Bhagat Singh, Ashfaqullah Khan and other freedom fighters apart from expressing regret over the killings, arrests and action against protesters in UP and other parts of the country during anti-NRC protests. He also called 'NPR, NRC and CAA as an attack on constitution'.

Prajapat is undergoing treatment but his condition was critical. While protests are going on across the country, this is the first such incident (self-immolation) in the country during anti-NRC protests. UPDATE: He passed away two days later in the hospital.
