Bhopal: From non-functional street lights that lead to harassment of girls to unpaid scholarships and from quality assessment of houses under Rajiv Aawas Scheme to ways of getting information on rights of children in police stations, citizens got applications on basic yet interesting issues drafted during a RTI awareness week that concluded on Wednesday in Bhopal.

Organised jointly by NGO Aawaj and MP Campaign for People’s Right to Information, the awareness week included interaction and awareness sessions with college students, training of specific groups and awareness dissemination stalls put up at various public places in Bhopal.

The main target of the week long programme on the theme ‘Hamara Paisa Hamara Hisaab’ (My money my accountability) was youth, Prashant Dubey of Aawaj said.

About 25 poor settlements in city were selected for the awareness generation apart from the colleges like Hamidia College, MLB Girls College and Bhopal School of Social Sciences. About 40 paralegal volunteers of Centre of Social Justice were also trained.

Rolly Shivhare of MP Campaign for People’s Right to Information said it was interesting to see many questions bubbling within the common citizens that needed answers.

About 2000 people were reached through the campaign and in all 129 RTI applications were drafted by the citizens with help of the volunteers.
