BHOPAL: In a shocking incident, a journalist was shot dead in his office in Madhya Pradesh.
The journalist, Kamlesh Jain, who worked for Nai Dunia, was sitting in his office in Pipalya Mandi in Mandsaur district, when he was shot.
The motorcycle-borne assailants entered the office and shot at him. He later succumbed to the injuries. This is the second incident of a journalist’s murder in MP in a fortnight.
Sources said that two bullets were fired at Jain. Both hit him in the chest and he fell down. The assailants escaped soon after the incident.
He was immediately rushed to the local government hospital. However, he was declared dead. Jain was also an active social worker. Local residents have given a call for bandh in the town.
Sources said that he had received threats but didn't lodge an FIR in this regard. The attackers had reportedly kept their faces covered. Though CCTVs are installed at the gate of the office, it was dark outside.
The police officials said that they have registered a case and have launched a hunt for the killers. Nai Dunia is among the most prestigious and respected Hindi dailies in Central India.
This is the second case of a murder of a journalist in the state, recently. Earlier, Shyam Sharma, a journalist in Indore, was attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. His body was found in a car. The incident had occurred on May 15.
