Bhopal: Political climate is likely to soar again with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) all set to register at least two dozens more FIRs in the Vyapam scam—after a period of several months.
The FIRs – about 25 un-investigated and crucial cases – are likely soon and would come after a long lull in registering of Vyapam cases by the CBI.
Sources have said that the cases in which CBI FIRs are likely involve some high profile accused including a former minister of state level functionary who was reportedly close to chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
For months, there has been no ‘headway’ in Vyapam scam and even whistleblowers went public, expressing dissatisfaction with the pace of the CBI probe. It has been especially pointed that due to laggard pace of probe, many key accused have gotten bail and others now in jail might also get the relief soon.
The CBI has so far registered 153 FIRs in all in the Vyapam scam and all of them were registered within three months of the Supreme Court handing over Vyapam probe to CBI on July 9, 2015.
However, the Special Task Force (STF) of MP Police that was investigating the scam had listed 185 cases before the Supreme Court initially and the court had asked CBI to take over all of them irrespective of the status of investigation or prosecution. Later, the STF listed 27 more cases, taking the total cases to 212. But out of even 185 initial cases, the CBI registered FIRs only in 153 cases, leaving 32 cases un-investigated.
Whistleblower Paras Saklecha told NewsBits.in that, “DIG Manish Sinha has assured that 25 cases would be taken up soon”. Saklecha said this after he met Sinha in Bhopal. However, seven other cases (out of 185) won’t be taken up by CBI as the agency feels that these cases are ‘unrelated to Vyapam’ scam, Saklecha further said.
