Bhopal: The shocking incident of nine visually challenged boys in a shelter home in Gwalior going hungry for 40 hours has earned authorities rap from the MP Human Rights Commission (MPHRC).
The rights panel has sought explanation from the divisional commissioner and district collector of Gwalior on the matter by taking suo motu cognizance of the incident.
The authorities would have to submit a report to the commission by Friday (May 6), additional director (public relations) of MPHRC, LR Sisodia said.
Sources mentioned that the nine visually handicapped boys, residing in Mahav Ashram of Gwalior did not get any food for over 40 hours as cooking gas cylinder was not available at the shelter home.
Some payment for the cylinder refills was due and the gas agency had reportedly refused to provide any refills. Officials concerned failed to suitable action and no food was cooked at the home for two days.
When the issue came to light, social justice department officials from Bhopal swung into action and finally the boys could eat after 40 hours, sources said.
