BHOPAL: Two persons have been arrested for the acid attack, said police on Sunday.

They had escaped after the crime and have been arrested in Chhattisgarh.

Police said that it was a case of jilted lover’s revenge as the girl had refused to marry her.

The accused-Trilok Chand, 29, is the girl’s relative. He is brother-in-law of her cousin sister, said the police. Police said that he had met Shailja when she went to attend her cousin sister’s marriage in Dongargarh in Chhattisgarh recently.

He is already married but repeatedly asked the victim, Shailja, 24, to marry him. When Namdev proposed to Shailja, she flatly refused.

Apparently, this angered him and he planned the attack. Shailja, 24, was attacked when she had left her rented house in Arera Colony on Saturday morning.

The acid fell on her hands, legs and other body parts. She got multiple burn injuries, however, as she had covered her face, it was not harmed.

The accused and his accomplice Sohan Tiwari have been caught and are being brought to Bhopal. They have been arrested in Rajnandgaon.

Once the accused reaches Bhopal, the police will interrogate him to find out more about how he planned the attack. Shailja hails from Seoni. He teaches at Aliya Polytechnic, a private college in  Bhopal. [Photo courtesy: ETV Madhya Pradesh]
