Angry farmers assault, chase Collector, demand case on policemen who fired at farmers in Mandsaur

BHOPAL: Irate farmers chased and assaulted the Collector in Mandsaur on Wednesday.

Furious over the death of six farmers, angry protesters assaulted Collector Swatantra Singh, who had run to save himself.

The farmers were upset that the officials didn't come for discussions earlier and after the farmers were killed, suddenly politicians and officers rushed to the trouble-hit Mandsaur.

The protesters have demanded that policemen who fired should be booked for murder. "Till now, no case has been registered on the killers. We want them booked immediately", said farmers' union leaders.

The region remained on the boil. A factory was set afire in Pipalya Mandi while trucks and other vehicles were smashed. In Bhopal, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a meeting to review the situation. 

The compensation for families of six farmers who died, has been raised to Rs 1 crore for kin of each victim who was killed in the incident. Protests continued in other parts of the State also. 

In Bhopal also, farmers were on streets in different parts of the city. They also set afire effigy of Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The bandh had an affect in several districts of the State.
