Harda: In what could be looked upon as major pat on back, the chief executive officer (CEO) of Zilla Panchayat, Harda, Shanmukh Priya Mishra got a bat monogrammed by cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar at the hands of the master himself on Thursday for achieving open defecation free (ODF) status for rural Harda.

Tendulkar is the brand ambassador for Swachch Bharat Mission and about 20 selected IAS officials (district collectors/ZP CEOs) from across country identified as ‘champions of sanitation’ for their exemplary work in sanitation interacted with him at a programme in New Delhi on Thursday.

Shanmukh Priya Mishra was among the six officers who got opportunity to make presentation on their field work before Tendulkar.

The ODF campaign in Harda was initiated by IAS official Ganesh Shankar Mishra, ex-CEO of Harda ZP and husband of Shanmukh Priya and she has carried the work forward, achieving ODF status for rural Harda on August 15. Ganesh Shankar Mishra is currently additional collector of Harda.

Speaking on the occasion, Tendulkar complimented the officers, saying that sportspersons like him got immediate recognition in the field, IAS officers like the ‘champions’ were doing selfless work. “You may not get noticed, but the satisfaction you would get from within is priceless and cannot be brought in the market,” IAS officer Nipun Vinayak quoted Tendulkar on his blog.

The programme had been organized by the ministry of drinking water and sanitation.

He recounted his sign tactics use with fellow batter Rahul Dravid to indicate ball swing direction, while highlighting the importance of trust, transparency and team work for any project.

“The event and getting a bat signed by Tendulkar himself, was a big motivation for us. The fact that I got opportunity to make presentation before him is doubly rewarding for me,” Shanmukh Priya Mishra said while talking to NewsBits.in.
