Bhopal: The MP Human Rights Commission has expressed concern over the fact that disabled students in the state were apparently not receiving the facilities due to them.

The commission has considered the lack of facilities as violation of human rights of disabled students who are being deprived of basic education because of this.

Making example of one such complaint, the commission has directed the MP Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE) to compile a list of such disabled students who need writers, additional time or other facilities and ensure that they get it during the upcoming board exams.

The commission has said that to ensure that rights of students were not violated the list of such students and the facility required by them should be available at district and board levels.

A student Onkar Pal of village Shyampura of Rama block in Jhabua district has said in a complaint to the commission that his disability does not allow him to write. He had applied for a writer for class 10 exam according to rules with the board in year 2013.

However, writer was not made available to him and therefore despite repeatedly appearing in exam, he hasn’t been able to pass his class 10 exam.

The commission has cited this case while writing to the MPBSE chairman and has asked him to seriously consider the points and make provisions for the facilities due to the disabled students. The commission has also invited the secretary of the board for a discussion in this regard.

Meanwhile, the panel has also faxed a letter to the district education officer of Jhabua to ensure that the student Onkar Pal was provided necessary facilities during upcoming board exams. (Image courtesy: examwatch.com)
