Two die as aircraft Diamond 42 crashes, broken to pieces, falls in river in Maharashtra

BHOPAL/NAGPUR: Two persons including a flying instructor and a woman co-pilot, were killed when an aircraft crashed in Maharashtra on Wednesday.

The aircraft crashed into the Wainganga river in Gondia district, close to MP border, said local police.

According to information, Captain Rajan Gupta, a flying instructor, and trainee pilot Himani Kalyani, 25, were onboard the aircraft, when it hit a ropeway wire before crashing into the river.

Kalyani, who hails from Delhi, was taking a training course at National Flying Training Institute (NFTI), Gondia. She had almost completed her training period and it was her final test flight when the mishap took place.

The four seater, Diamond 42, was broken to pieces in the incident. Initially, the local authorities said that the mishap took place in Balaghat, MP but later it was found that the area fell in Gondia district. The Maharashtra police are conducting investigation into the case.
