BHOPAL: A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) has been missing for the last two years, yet, his mysterious disappearance has failed to stir his own department.

Maan Singh Tekam, a DSP with the Madhya Pradesh police, had been posted in the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Bhopal, when he went missing in February 2013.

Today, his disapperance was raised in the State Assembly. Congress MLA Phunde Lal Marco sought a reply as to what government was doing to trace its own officer.

Tekam had left for Satna but didn't reach his destination. He didn't reach his home either. Family members have been searching for him and have made repeated rounds to Bhopal, urging Chief Minister and top police officials, but he is yet to be traced.

Tekam belongs to Anuppur district in Eastern Madhya Pradesh. As he has been missing and his salary was stopped, the family has been going through bad times. His wife, Mohwati Singh, is working as a labourer to eke out living.

His children have also quit studies. They take up odd jobs to help their mother run the household. After a row with a local strongman who had threatened him, he faced a defamation suit and was attached to PHQ, said sources.

The police officials didn't act seriously in trying to save the officer. After it was raised in Assembly, the Home Minister Bhupendra Singh has said that the government will look into the matter.
