Economic growth should translate into better children’s rights: Unicef MP Chief

Indore: The MP State Planning Commission plans to develop district level indices in partnership with help of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalya (DAVV), Indore for better planning in the State.

The plan is to keep the focus squarely on the challenges and work strongly on equity, vice-chairman of Planning Commission, Chetanya Kashyap said on Friday.

Kashyap was speaking at an international seminar on Globalisation and Indian Economy, organized by School of Economics, DAVV.

He said that State is doing well on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and agriculture growth and has taken steps for benefit of its people particularly women and children.  “In future too, we would focus more on them,” he said.

The two day seminar was inaugurated on Friday and is seeing participation of many experts from Madhya Pradesh as well as other parts of the country.

Michael Juma, Chief of UNICEF, Madhya Pradesh, who was special guest at the function spoke on children and budget. He said that the need is to ensure that economic growth translates into better realization of rights of children.

He urged for more resources allocation and need for special budgeting for children as Madhya Pradesh has many challenges for them. He also called on the University to see how child rights can be integrated in the curriculum of its various disciplines. 

Ganesh Kawardia, Head of School of Economics shared thoughts on the seminar and its objective of bringing the experts together to debate on the crucial issues of economics.

The seminar is supported by Madhya Pradesh Economic Association. N K Dhakad Vice Chancellor, DAVV spoke on how to focus more on vulnerable sections, especially girl child and need to look for better ways of employability.

A journal of Madhya Pradesh Economic Association was also released on the occasion by the guests.
