Bhopal: Residents of Madhya Pradesh and being made to pay three times higher power tariff compared to Delhi. This is when Delhi actually purchases part of its power from Madhya Pradesh.

People of MP are being fleeced due to scam in power supply process and the MP unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would hold a month-long agitation to bring the issue before public and to demand that power tariff should be at least halved in MP.

This was announced at a joint press conference of MP convener of AAP Alok Agarwal and party’s MP in-charge Gopal Rai on Monday.

The leaders said that in Delhi, consumers have to pay electricity bill of Rs 462 for 200 units of power whereas in MP it costs Rs 1262.

Agarwal said that in MP the government power plants are in non-functional condition, whereas government is purchasing expensive power from private companies and transferring the burden on common consumers.

To highlight the major issue, the AAP would start a statewide signature campaign that would conclude on March 1 with demonstrations on regional headquarters of power companies and submission of objections.

In second phase of agitation, the power supply and others scams of Shivraj government would be taken amidst common. This would conclude with demonstrations at all 230 assembly segments on March 22.

On March 27, the AAP would lay siege to MP state assembly in Bhopal and would see participation of common people in large numbers, the leaders said.

Agarwal said that AAP would emerge as alternative to the corruption ridden BJP government in state and individual ‘kranti veer’ observers have been appointed at 230 assembly segments each to lead the agitations and organizational structure.

The AAP leaders also spoke about the ISI spy racket and the illegal sand mining issue in the state.
