BHOPAL: As many as 20 major announcements have been made by the Madhya Pradesh government during the three months of the ongoing Namami Devi Narmade Yatra, which is also known as Narmada Sewa Yatra.

The Yatra, which aims at conserving Narmada river--the lifeline of Madhya Pradesh, and bringing about a social-environmental transformation, has reached halfway mark recently.

During the course of yatra, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has made major announcements. These 20 announcements include turning Narmada banks into no-alochol zone. From next year, there will be no liquor shop on the banks of the river.

A massive tree plantation drive is on. So far, tens of thousands of saplings have been planted. The Yatra had begun on December 11, 2016. It started from Amarkantak in Eastern MP. Other major announcements include the plan to develop Amarkantank into a beautiful pilgrimage spot.

There will be changing rooms built at the 'ghats'. Sewage treatment plants will be set up so that polluted water doesn't get into Narmada river. Organic farming will be undertaken on the banks of Narmada.

Crematoriums will be set up at the river banks at suitable spots. Also, there will be sewage treatment plant in Amarkantak. People from these villages suffering from critical ailments are being treated. Dance troupes in this yatra to be given cash reward.

In each village panchayat, Narmada Sewa Samiti will be constituted. Besides, in Amarkantak, poor will be given houses under PM's housing scheme. Within three months, it has covered more than 2,000 kilometres.

The chief minister has visited 22 spots in padyatra and jansamwad. Nearly 14 lakh people have taken pledge for Narmada conservation. They have also vowed to shun intoxicants.

Besides, 15 lakh persons have participated in 479 jan-samwad programmes that were organised as part of it. Over 51,000 Narmada Sewaks have registered themselves on the website till date.
