BHOPAL: The production of meat and eggs has seen a staggering rise in Madhya Pradesh.

It has doubled in the last five years while in this period, the growth in milk production has been less than meat-eggs, say state government's figures.

The production of eggs was just over 87 crore in the year 2012-2013 and it saw a shap rise, reaching 169.4 crore in the 2016-17.
Similarly, the meat production went up from 40,000 metric tonnes (MT) to 79,000 MTs, the government figures in the Economic Survey report suggest.

However, it is in the same period that the milk production went up by just 1-1/2 times. Interestingly, the BJP government has been opposed to including egg in diet for children in angan wadis.

Activists have repeatedly said that the eggs should be given in anganwadis, especially, because kids suffer from malnutrition and egg is a good source of nutrition. Tribal children suffer from acute malnutrition.

Congress has said that during UPA regime, BJP targeted the Union govermnent for increased meat production but the same BJP government is now promoting meat export and subsidizing slaughterhouses.
